The Grand Lodge of Scotland / Poppyscotland 2018

Day 3 & Day 4

The Grand Lodge of Scotland and Poppyscotland entered into a joint venture to commemorate the end of the Great War in 1918. This takes the form of visiting every Province the length and breadth of the country where Provinces and Lodges lay wreaths at local War Memorials. The Widows Sons Scotland agreed to facilitate this by riding to each location on their motorcycles and provide a visible link.

Day 3 began on Saturday 11 August 2018 at Rosyth visiting Dundee and Stonehaven.

On Sunday 12 August Perth and Dunblane were visited.

Below provides a brief outline of what took place. No doubt others may have other photographs of these locations.

Day 3 – 11am

Saturday 11 August

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Fife and Kinross organised a ceremony at Douglas Bank Cemetery near Rosyth. Although having arrived at 10.20 a.m. at the Lodge premises in Admiralty Road to find the PGM and the Brethren had already departed. The WSS duly arrived and we made our way to the Cemetery where the PGM Bro. Stewart Quigley and the Daughter Lodges laid their wreaths at the memorial where many members of the Armed Forces are buried.

Grateful thanks to the Lodges in Admiralty Road, Rosyth for providing refreshments prior to and after the ceremony.

Day 3 – 1pm

Arrived at the Black Watch Memorial off the A90 at Dundee. We were met by PGM Bro. Michael Mulholland. Many Brethren had assembled. The PGM and the Daughter Lodges laid their wreaths at the Memorial.

Day 3 – 3pm

Arrived in The Lodge of Stonehaven No.65 to be met by PGM Bro. Brian Christie. After a short briefing in the Temple we moved on to the War Memorial near Dunnottar Castle. Definitely a spectacular view. The PGM and the Daughter Lodges laid their wreaths.

The refreshments provided by the Lodge of Stonehaven No. 65 were greatly appreciated after the ceremony prior to departing home.

Sunday 12 August

Day 4 – 11.00am

Arrived at Lodge Scoon and Perth No.3 to be met by PGM of Perthshire East, Bro. Russell Logan. Unfortunately this was our first ‘wet’ day and the hospitality of the Lodge was greatly appreciated prior to moving to Balhousie Castle to lay the wreaths on behalf of the Province and the Daughter Lodges.

Every cross on the hedgerow represents a life lost. Quite staggering.

Day 4 – 1.00pm

Arrived ahead of schedule through some rainfall at the Queen Victoria School in Dunblane to lay the Provincial Wreath in the Chapel. PGM of Perthshire West, Bro. Roger Bullard welcomed all to the proceedings.

Following hospitality at The Lodge of Dunblane No.9 (the warm plate of soup was welcome on a day like today) we departed home at 4.30 p.m., once again through the rain.

Day 4 – 2.00pm

Assembled Brethren with the Chapel at the Queen Victoria School

WHAT IS FREEMASONRY?Brotherhood

Freemasonry (or Masonry) is the oldest fraternal organization in the world. Though its origins can be traced to the stonemasons and cathedral builders of Medieval times, Freemasonry remains a vital force in the daily lives of millions of men across the globe. Through a series of degrees and ceremonies, the values of Freemasonry are passed from generation to generation, Mason to Mason, in a timeless and tireless effort to make good men better. These degrees provide a framework that affects every aspect of modern life and are based on the values of brotherly love, relief, and truth. Every year in virtually every city and town across America, thousands of men join the ranks of Freemasonry. Men of honor and integrity. Of charity and obligation. Each with a vow to be the best they can be. To be more than just a man. To be a Mason.
