It’s Good to Talk – but it’s also Good to Listen

As some Brethren may be aware, this is Mental Health Awareness Week. The Mental Health Foundation started the event 21 years ago. Each year the Foundation continues to set the theme, which this year is Loneliness. Loneliness is affecting more and more people in the UK, and has a negative impact on the nation’s mental as well as physical wellbeing.

Our connection to other people and to our communities is fundamental in protecting our mental wellbeing.

On Friday 13th May, at 10.59 a.m., every radio station in the United Kingdom will unite to play the ‘2022 Mental Health Minute’ – an important one-minute message to mark this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week which is being supported by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The 2022 Minute is in support of ‘Better Health – Every Mind Matters’, which offers advice to tackle loneliness and provides NHS-approved tips to help people look after their mental wellbeing.

If you would like a copy of the Grand Lodge of Scotland ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing’ publication which is pictured above please contact Dawn Oliff, the Homes and Charities Manager, at Freemasons’ Hall.

WHAT IS FREEMASONRY?Brotherhood

Freemasonry (or Masonry) is the oldest fraternal organization in the world. Though its origins can be traced to the stonemasons and cathedral builders of Medieval times, Freemasonry remains a vital force in the daily lives of millions of men across the globe. Through a series of degrees and ceremonies, the values of Freemasonry are passed from generation to generation, Mason to Mason, in a timeless and tireless effort to make good men better. These degrees provide a framework that affects every aspect of modern life and are based on the values of brotherly love, relief, and truth. Every year in virtually every city and town across America, thousands of men join the ranks of Freemasonry. Men of honor and integrity. Of charity and obligation. Each with a vow to be the best they can be. To be more than just a man. To be a Mason.
